Foundation has recently announced the release of its latest personal security platform device, the Passport Prime, on December 19, 2024. This innovative device is designed to safeguard not only your Bitcoin but also your entire digital life. With features that function as a Swiss Army Knife for online security, the Passport Prime offers a wide range of capabilities to help users keep their information secure.
One of the primary features of the Passport Prime is its ability to secure Bitcoin wallets, including multisig functionality and temporary seed phrases. Additionally, the device allows users to store other sensitive digital data with apps such as 2FA Codes and Security Keys. Users can also use the encrypted flash drive to store up to 50 GB of data, with an Airlock feature in the File Browser app to keep files private.
Foundation’s co-founder and CEO, Zach Herbert, aims to push the hardware wallet industry forward by creating a device that meets the evolving needs of digital assets. The Passport Prime is described as a Personal Security Platform that is fit for the future decentralized economy, making it simple to safeguard private keys offline and sign transactions with peace of mind.
Developers will have the opportunity to build third-party apps that can run on Foundation’s custom operating system, KeyOS, by mid-2025. These apps will be listed in Foundation’s App Catalogue, with the first one being produced by Cake Wallet to enable users to transact more privately with Bitcoin, Monero, and other cryptocurrencies.
Despite its advanced functionalities, Foundation claims that setting up and using the Passport Prime will be easy for users. The device can be set up using Envoy, a native app that guides the setup process and connects to the device via QuantamLink Bluetooth. The Bluetooth chip embedded in the Passport Prime can only send and receive encrypted messages using quantum-resistance technology.
The Passport Prime is priced at $299 and is set to ship by Q2 2025. It is available in two different colors, Arctic Copper, and Midnight Bronze, and is both completely open-source and manufactured in the United States.
